Automobile defects covered under lemon law

Lemon law is a law that enables vehicle owners to get a refund for their vehicle, if the vehicle is termed a lemon. The law was enacted in the year 1993 and it is empowers a consumer, who is stuck with a faulty motor vehicle to get a replacement or a refund, provided the vehicle’s defect classify it to be termed a “Lemon”.A vehicle can be termed a “Lemon” if it has a defect which cannot be repaired by the manufacturer, agent, or authorized dealer after four attempts and this defect significantly reduced it’s usability and market value. Lemon law covers a wide range of automobile defects. Defects such as a problem with the engine or vehicle brake system, water leaks, inhibitions felt is the usage of the vehicle’s steering wheel all come under the defects covered by Lemon law. If you motor vehicle is suffering from transmission problems, the vehicle’s exterior painting is badly done, you encounter vibrations when driving the vehicle or that you feel it rattles when moving, then you are having a defect which is covered by Lemon Law and your vehicle can be termed a “Lemon”. Such defects are found to substantially hinder the vehicle’s use, value or safety and therefore you can avail the law to get a refund on the vehicle. Important things to understand here are important bulletins called Technical Service Bulletins. These are essentially instructions from the manufacturer that alert dealerships of specific defects or necessary repairs in certain models. You could do well to get an alert on this from your dealer because, unless asked for, you will not receive information on such matters. The defects or repairs that come under Technical Service Bulletins can occur in your vehicle model and must be repairable. So, look out for them and if any of these defects cannot be repaired after four or more attempt and they also come under the defects covered by Lemon law, then your vehicle can be termed a “Lemon”. Having an understanding of the defect that is covered by lemon law will enable you to know where you stand in case your motor vehicle has to be repeatedly left in the repair shop because of a defect or defects. You can take necessary action under the law to get a refund on your motor vehicle.
