Rolf Harris to go Nude?

by Martin Hofschroer

Rolf Harris has revealed that he has been painting nude portraits at home in the hope he will get the chance to exhibit them.

Rolf told the Birmingham Sunday Mercury that he has painted people nude at his home for around ten years and is waiting for the occasion to display them to the public.

He told the newspaper: "My previous gallery wasn't interested in showing them. But it's an art form which goes back to when man was painting 10,000 years ago and my current gallery is thinking about putting some of my pictures into its exhibitions."

Rolf said that he found his subjects by broaching people with the potentially awkward question in order to discover if they were willing to be painted naked.

"You pluck up the courage to ask someone if they're prepared to do it. Some won't, some agree. You have to make sure they are of an age to consent and I paint them at home," he told the newspaper.

The octogenarian claimed that he does not paint men or teenagers as he prefers the curves of the female form.

He told the Mercury: "I'm not really interested in painting (nude) men or nymphets, the young teenage years. That doesn't grab me really because I like a woman's shape. I quite often take photographic references and work for weeks and weeks."

Rolf is currently in negotiations with producers to make a television programme about nude painting such is his passion for nude portraits.

"It would be a wonderful landmark, televised as I painted a nude. But that's all I can say at the moment because we're still talking about it," he told the publication.

The performer also revealed that he would be willing to make more of the hit 'Rolf on Art' television shows as she still has great enthusiasm to create and discuss art.

Rolf was talking to the newspaper at Lichfield's Whitewall Art Gallery where he was exhibited an array of artwork including Rolf Harris prints.

"The most I've sold a painting for so far is £110,000, though the gallery got half of that as I'm now on a deal that's worth around 50 per cent. I can't sell them myself. I haven't got the gallery space, the time or the contacts, but I can't believe there's so much interest in them."

Rolf recently attended the Ivor Novello awards at Grosvenor House in London with his wife Alwen.
