5 Things That Get Dumped Illegally

Stop being so lazy!

by Sam Qam

How often have you driven down a certain street and seen a variety of awkward looking rubbish that has been dumped. Like many people you probably find this really annoying. It is of course against the law too, but unless people are caught red handed it can be very hard to trace or prosecute. So what are the most common things to be dumped? You will probably recognise many of these from that street…

Mattresses

Guaranteed you will see the odd mattress in one of these piles of illegally dumped materials. This is a common thing to be dumped as people may not know how or where they can dispose of them. They are big and bulky too which makes it hard for people to fit in a car or to carry to somewhere appropriate.

White Goods

'White goods' include things like fridges and freezers which are another very common thing to see left at the side of the road. These are particularly illegal to dump as they contain chemicals in them which are harmful to the environment. This unfortunately though is a reason why they are so often dumped, because you often need to pay to have them disposed of appropriately so that the chemicals don't escape. Inconsiderate people who are not prepared to foot the bill, will quite happily just dump them.

Dogs

Sadly pets are a common thing to get dumped at the side of the road. What may have been a nice puppy at Christmas time may soon have outstayed its welcome in a family home which was not properly prepared to look after it. Dumping a pet is an act of animal cruelty and should never happen when there are so many animal shelters out there.

Furniture

Much like mattresses, big furniture items are regularly left at the side of the road as people don't have the means to take them to the town dump. What they could do instead is to advertise them online or give them to charity. This not only recycles them but saves on waste too. In most cities there are even rubbish clearance or even garden clearance companies who can deal with all the moving for you too.

Building Waste

One of the worst kinds of waste to be dumped is building waste. This might include bricks and mortar, plaster and insulation and even hazardous materials like asbestos. If you ever spot anyone dumping this sort of material you should report it right away because lives could be at risk.
