Being Protected With Motocross Gears

by Terry Pearson

One of the most important gears needed in dirt bike racing are motocross boots. Even more important than helmet because you can ride without a helmet and survive. However, you cannot last an hour riding without boots on because youd soon give up taking flying debris on your bare legs.

Once engineers at the plant design an innovative motocross bike, they will have to test the effectiveness of the gears. Riders will be asked to try out the bike on courses specially designed to maximize the new features of the bike. These riders have no special talents, they are just plain old regular riders.

Gearing down really depends on the rider and his riding style. Terrain is also considered whether theres a lot of straight runs or more on twists and turns. Utilize a rear sprocket that is bigor a front sprocket that is small if you want to gear down. What it achieves is a final drive ratio that is high as well as decreasing speed, suitable for climbing.

If you want to gear up, you can either use a smaller sprocket for the rear or a countershaft that is big. This can add lots of speed yet the final drive ratio is lowered. Get to the site the day before to accustom yourself when competing at a high altitude. Your bike needs to be adjusted. Due to high pressure at such altitude, the engine has lesser power. Therefore, you need to lower our gearing to adjust which means you have to lessen the use of your clutch.

Try tuning the configuration of your gearing finely without changing the chain. Always bring along some extra parts such as a rear sprocket that is larger than the one you are using, a countershaft that is smaller. Remember the tooth ratio: ½:3. Avoid installing a new sprocket if you are using a worn out chain. This will only destroy your sprockets teeth.

This can wear out your chain faster if your countershaft is small. Use a standard counter with a chain that is new and has an extra link iif you decide to use a countershaft that is one size smaller. Use a motocross gear that has passed the standards of off road racing at all times. Remember that the higher the quality of your accessories the more superior the protection that it affords.
