English Summer
Now that we're nearly halfway into July, the summer really does feel like it's here. Discussing summer plans is a hot social topic, as is commenting on people's tans and asking them where the best Lidos are in London. This time of year you can find yourself or your friends in one of a few places.
1. At the airport leaving to or coming home from an exotic destination:
Whether in the terminal, waiting for their taxi in the shade, or collecting their baggage, travellers can be found with friends or family, on their mobiles, in a suit having just come from a business meeting, or in shorts and a tan having just come from holiday in the sun. Depending on how stressed or frazzled someone looks you can usually tell whether they're about to go or have just come back. While the four main airports in London are busy all year round, the summer is certainly the busiest time to fly.
2. Drinking Pimms at a cricket match:
There are few things more British than Pimms and cricket. Summer is a season for sport. Whether you're playing or watching, a die hard fan or just there to socialise, outdoor sporting events are a great way to spend a summer afternoon. Some sporting events are quite casual, while others are slightly more posh - where sun hats and heels might be in order. Make sure to stay in the shade.
3. At a wedding:
Summer weddings are beautiful. Guests can be seated and entertained outdoors and can remain comfortable in light attire and few accessories. For the full wedding experience, a marquee is required. Marquees can be big or small, but are the perfect way to create a romantic, party ambiance to celebrate in. From flowers, to table settings, lighting fixtures to DJ booths, everything can be installed and customised to suit the marquee of your choice.
4. Barbequing in the backyard:
What's the perfect way to enjoy a summer evening or weekend afternoon? Eating delicious barbeque in your backyard of course. Londoners aren't privy to great weather all year around so when the sun does shine it is our duty to be outside enjoying it. If you're got a barbeque at home, then why not fire it up, throw on some homemade burgers and cut vegetables and enjoy yourself a barbeque.
Whether you have holiday time to escape the city or not, there are many ways to enjoy an English summer.
