Where to Buy an Apartment in Edinburgh
Find the area right for you…
Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and for many; it is one of the most beautiful and most beloved places in the world. Its heart is festooned with an endless stream of glorious churches, castles, monuments and epic vistas that defy belief. Not only this, Edinburgh is a cultural hub with intriguing sights around every single turn.

You can walk for 30 minutes through the centre and pass by ancient castles that have housed kings and queens, visit dozens of night clubs and venues, Michelin starred restaurants, a spectrum of high end fashion houses and adorable second hand clothing shops that specialise in vintage garments and show jewellery.

So assuming that you are thinking about coming to live in this 'Auld Reekie' metropolis, where should you plan on living. Here is a pocket guide:

On a Budget

If you, like most of us, have a limited budget for renting or buying a house of flat Leith is one of the prime locations for affordable housing that is still engulfed in history and modern inspirational spaces. Leith was once a town on its own, neighbouring Edinburgh. It is almost as old and as such has plenty of its own, equally chequered history. Housing away from the Edwardian north and gorgeous Hillside area is generally quite reasonable with one bedroom flats available starting just over the £100,000 mark.

Buy-to-Let

For those looking to make a pot of cash quickly by renting their Edinburgh apartment out, the best place to buy is as close to the centre of town as possible. Places like Newington, the Royal Mile and Haymarket are the perfect distance from town for Festival visitors, stag and hen nights and family visits as they are all walking distance from pubs and clubs, major sights and major transport links. Top tip: buy as big a flat as you can afford and you will make a killing.

What's a Budget?

For those lucky enough to have incredibly deep pockets filled with more money than you can count, Edinburgh has many options for you too. Belmont Drive is one of the most expensive places to live in the UK, with house prices averaging well over a million pounds. If you can't quite stretch that far, then there are still areas like Morningside, New Town, Corstorphine and Stockbridge which offer amazing locations with fairly unreasonable prices, which in the nicest areas will easily reach £500,000 and above.
