by Darren McLaughlin
Very few people I've ever talked to have ever argued with me when I've mentioned the sheer beauty of the state of Tennessee. For a person who has had the pleasure of driving through this gorgeous southern state can attest, the majesty of the Smoky Mountains is hard to beat for sheer eye candy. The state has also spent a great deal of money to ensure that the highways are clean and safe, so that any driving vacation is a real treat. A majority of travellers to Tennessee make the drive from neighboring states because of both the aesthetics, as well as the many recreational activities the state is famous for.One of the biggest attraction the state has had to offer visitors in the last 20 years is Dollywood, Dolly Parton's Great Smoky Mountain family Amusement Park. Dollywood has been an amusement park since 1961, when it was known as the "Rebel Railroad". Legendary country star Dolly Parton bought part ownership in the amusement park in 1986, and her popularity helped lead a rapid expansion. Since then the park has grown to become the largest such attraction in the state of Tennessee. Untold numbers of people who visit Tennessee, come for this reason. They are drawn by the home-spun capital of entertainment located in Pigeon Forge, known as Dollywood. Dollywood is legendary for its' annual Christmas activities, which are held each year from November 5th. through December 30th. Known as the "Smoky Mountain Christmas", Dollywood goes all out on holiday cheer with over 3 million lights and decorations. The festivities are remarkable in their intensity. Here's a list of some of the Christmas pageantry you can expect:1) The Von Trapp family - carrying on the tradition of their musical family2) The tallest German Christmas Pyramid in the United States3) The Parade of Lights - tons of Christmas characters take place in the parade4) A Celtic Yuletide with Michael Londra - traditional Christmas songs The list goes on, but these brief highlights should give you an idea of the kind of fun you can expect at Dollywood during the Christmas season. From the lights to the joyous songs and the wonderful food, Dollywood represents the best that beautiful state of Tennessee has to offer. The key to Dollywood as an entertainment destination has always been the emphasis on family-friendly fun in the country music tradition. If you are a fan of country music, a fan of Christmas, or best yet a fan of both, then the Dollywood Christmas extravaganza becomes a cant-miss trip on your vacationing agenda. This Christmas season, a trip to Dollywood may be in order.
