The sad Truth about College education

by Brian Jump

If you have graduated from a 4 year or extended education program, from a state oruniversity based school, after reading this you will most likely know what I speakof.Only problem is, that you or I didn't know this PRIOR to going to school, andinvested significant time and money in the golden rule of learning. Our colleges in part, are a failure. Sure, they teach. They instruct. The professorsand teachers have a lot of knowledge, and they share it in bits and pieces. But howdoes it help people like you or I create an income that will pay our bills, feed ourchildren, house us, allow for a vacation etc. In reality, it rarely does. Theexception to this sad rule is trade or technical schools where they focus onteaching a specific subject from beginning to end, such as IT, accounting, or whatour school teaches, Paintless Dent Repair (http://www.nodents.com )You see, the main problem is that state schools and universities think it is best tohave students learn art history, algebra, and economics and a whole host of othercourses that are not related to the core subject that students enroll for, and thereal sad truth is, that the student will on average spend 3 out of the 4 yearslearning this generic information. And that is assuming the student went to a fouryear school right out of high school, and never changed their major. Most studentsspend MORE time in school that just four years, with the majority of time spentlearning generic packaged courses statistics, calculus, Amercian Art History 101,who needs this information? No core learning on their intended subject, no development on related studies, realworld involvement, etc. Just generic learning for the sake of such. Sure, theuniversities are getting paid for the full 4 years, but you the student, are onlygetting in reality, of what you signed up for, unless you think it was crucialthat you learned art history, or the history of American Jazz, to apply to yourmarketing degree. I don't think it helps todays Marketing VP's, and its sad,Because this is American education in the modern age, and we still haven't learnedourselves. And dear Reader, I have proposed a solution. Will it happen in our lifetime, probably not. But, here it is- The universities and state schools need to focus onthe end product (the STUDENT) not profits. Once they do that, and start withcurriculum that is real world, front line experiences, for 4 years or however long, then and only then will they be serving mankind efficiently. Take a page out of thetrade school or vocational school curriculum for example- at our trade school atnodents.com, The Superior Auto Institute, we teach real world education from theminute a student arrives until they leave. No art history, no music appreciation101, just the core details on what the student signed up for to begin with.Nice idea, huh?
