HOW TO DESIGN GREAT LOOKING ID BADGES
One of the most attractive aspects related to having your own in house made employee ID badges is that you are free to work on the layout of your dreams without having to spend money on outsourced designers. However, many business owners and managers are afraid to be responsible for the design of their corporate ID cards as they do not feel sure about which aspects should be taken into consideration when working over the badge layout.
Before you even turn on your computer and open your card software, there are some things that you should have done first. With this being said, it is of utmost importance that you read your company’s security policy thoroughly so that you can make sure that your employee ID badges are not only nice to look and wear but also provide your different staff members with a secure working environment. Once you read your safety policy, determine which security features you need to include in your ID badges so that they cannot be easily imitated. It is also important that you take into consideration the aesthetic aspects of your ID badges. These are some of the questions you should ask yourself: do I want the cards to be printed on both or on one side? Will I include my company’s logo and employee’s picture in them? Which information do I need to have printed on the badges?
Once you have answered these questions, make sure you have all the information you need to incorporate on your ID cards and that it is correctly uploaded in the card software or any other data base you may use. Bear in mind that the information should be correct, updated and without any typos. If you already have your employees’ pictures ready, make sure they are stored in high quality and that your workers look nice and professional. If the pictures are old or of low quality, you should hire a professional photographer to have them taken again.
As a third step, you can start working on the layout of your ID badges. Most card software options offer you pre made templates that are really easy to customize. Browse the different templates you are offered until you find one you like the most. Then you can easily change the color of the background and lines or the position of your employees’ picture. If you are already acquainted with design software or if you do not like any of the customizable templates you are offered you can easily create the layout yourself starting a new template from scratch.
