Fibroids, Cysts, And PCOS - The Signs To Recognize

by Pat Lovejoy

The symptoms of uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) are often quite similar than in some other disorders in the woman's system. However, in this article we discuss about typical symptoms of these three common conditions.

Fibroids Symptoms

Fibroids in the uterus are non-malignant growth that usually appear during a woman's childbearing years. Even though fibroids can be a very bothersome ailment for a woman, they are not associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer.

More often than not fibroids don't cause any symptoms for a woman. That is why many women have fibroids without them even knowing about it. However, when symptoms occur, they include:

1. Extended periods (more than a week)

2. Heavy bleeding during menstrual periods

3. Pain in the pelvic areas

4. Frequent urination

5. Difficulties to empty the bladder

6. Back ache

7. Constipation

In the case fibroids become troublesome, you should consult with your doctor. They can help you to get rid of the problem.

Symptoms of Cysts on the Ovaries

Ovaries are the origins that produce eggs. There are two ovaries located on both side of the uterus.

The main functions of the ovaries include regulating female hormonal balance, menstrual cycle, and pregnancy. Normally, one egg is released every month (ovulation) to be available for sperm to fertilize it.

I have listed here some typical symptoms that cysts on the ovaries can cause for a woman:

1. Irregularity of menstrual cycles

2. Pressure and/or pain in the pelvic area

3. Back ache

4. Pain during sex

5. Pain or pressure during defecation

6. Nausea and/or vomiting

7. Sore breasts

8. Bloated abdomen

9. Difficulties to empty the bladder

PCOS Symptoms

Simply explained, PCOS is when a woman's hormones are out of balance. The ovaries become enlarged and contain cysts that are usually small and painless. PCOS causes issues with menstrual cycles and infertility. PCOS symptoms usually begin gradually to include:

1. Weight gain

2. Thinning hair

3. Infertility

4. Repeat miscarriages

5. Prolonged, irregular, or missing menstruation

6. Heavy irregular bleeding during menstrual cycles

7. Skin issues (acne)

8. Excess hair growth

9. Oily skin

10. Mood swings

As stated earlier, symptoms of uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts and PCOS can mimic other conditions. It's important for women to educate themselves and be observant of changes with their body to obtain an accurate diagnosis for either of these conditions.
