Why Take An Online Survey?

by Casey Trillbar

A bountiful amount of companies offering retail products provide surveys which consumers can take online. These surveys serve as a marketing technique; and they are beneficial both to the company, as well as the consumer. Why take an online survey? How does it really benefit the consumer? These online surveys provided by a majority of companies serve the consumer in two specific ways: It provides valuable research so the company can better serve the consumer; and two, companies typically reward the consumer with discounts or free products for taking the survey.

If you are in the market for free products, there are numerous companies with websites that will send you free samples or coupons as a thank-you for taking their survey. The surveys allow the company to better understand which products the consumer often purchases, how often these products are purchased, and which products the consumer would like to see improved. This research gives the company an edge and an opportunity to improve upon their product to better please the customer.

Grocery stores, toy stores, major hobby stores, clothing retailers, lawn and garden retailers, and major beauty product manufacturers are common types of companies that will provide the public with ample opportunity to take online company surveys. When the consumer fills out the survey, questions will generally be asked such as consumer location, age, gender, size of family, how often the consumer purchases a specific product, and if the consumer shops online.

Once the consumer fills out the surveys, they may be led through a website which offers the person newsletters, electronic coupons, free samples, and other similar things. Though these surveys can take anywhere from five minutes to thirty minutes to fill out, the majority of the time, the consumer finds it worth his or her while due to the coupons and free samples received as a result of filling out the survey.

The time spent filling out the online company surveys is minimal compared to the savings the company offers the person as gratitude and reward for taking the time to fill in the blanks. The surveys most companies provide are generally easy to fill out with simple instructions. The survey will automatically guide you through each page until it is completed. Some people are hesitant to fill out information such as zip codes, age, gender, and enter their email address. Unfortunately, the larger percentage of surveys does require this information; and this information must be entered before you can receive the free samples or coupons.

Long-term benefits can come to the consumer as a result of filling out the surveys. Typically, major retail companies will keep in contact with the consumer after the person fills out the online survey. Through sending email alerts about sales, offering electronic and printable coupons, the company provides opportunities for the person to take advantage of additional savings in the future. Holidays are also a popular time for companies to postal mail and email free samples and coupons to people who have filled out their online surveys.
