How Can You Improve Your Putting On Your Way To Your Next Golf Holiday?

Did you notice the last time you…

Travelled on a plane for a golf holiday, maybe to Spain, The Algarve or the USA, the flight crew unfailingly go through the exact same checks before every take-off.

And if you are like me, you'll be glad they do! It always gives you a sense of comfort and confidence.

As you'd expect…

The pilot also carefully plans before take-off. He or she has looked at the best route, paying particular attention to how the plane will approach for landing, what hazards exist nearby the destination and how best to avoid them.

But in order to get there, the pilot will have decided the best launch and the cruising altitude needed to get the plane on course for the best approach.

And we certainly know…

All pre-flight checks have to be fully complete before he gets clearance to take off.

So what's this got to do with putting? …

Well, this tried, tested, and proven system can give you and me one of the best golf tips for beginners or experienced players.

If you think of any putts of over 4 feet and up to as much as 100 feet, they can almost all be broken down into 3 parts.

Starting with the hole…

The destination - what are the hazards? Does the green slope treacherously away passed the hole? What is the consequence of missing?

And of course hardly any putts go straight into the hole exactly in the middle, most will roll in from either the left side or the right side of centre. So decide from where the ball should approach the hole.

The middle part of the balls travel, cruising altitude, determines if the ball will approach the hole in the right line and speed: so you need to pay attention to the middle part as much as you do the start and the end of any putt.

You and I can only control…

Setting the ball off on the right path, Take Off, and our purpose, Flight Plan, is to send the ball on its way so it can have a successful cruising phase, setting it up for an approach at the right speed, on the right line to land safely in the hole.

If by chance it doesn't drop in you know you'll have nothing more than a simple tap in.

So if you've been diligent…

Gone through your planning, plotted the route, done your checks, for example, got the correct grip and proper set up - check the Flight Plan one last time, you are ready to launch. Watch the ball on its way towards the middle part of its travel and then begin its final approach to its destination and a safe landing

So if you…

Do as the pilot does, you can be sure where your putt will end up - it will be in the hole or somewhere very close.

Your Checklist…

Plan your route and carry out your checks.

Launch the ball towards the cruising phase.

Watch as it get to the final approach and drops in.

Keep your feet on the short grass.
