Wipe the excess moisture on the water hose. Leave the door of the machine open so air can circulate inside and dry up the parts you cannot reach.

2. Clean the washer. Run an empty water cycle. Add a cup of distilled white vinegar. This is the most effective treatment for moldy appliances. Vinegar can effectively dissolve molds and disinfect the washer.

You should also treat the rubber gasket with vinegar solution. Mix one cup of white vinegar and one cup of water. Soak absorbent tissues in this mixture. Place the tissues on the gasket and leave it there for an hour. After an hour, remove the absorbent tissues and wipe the gasket clean.

3. You can substitute vinegar with lemon juice. Squeeze up to a cup of lemon juice. Run an empty water cycle and add the lemon juice. Let the machine use this cleaner to get rid of molds inside the pipes and the hose of the machine. Let it drain completely. The machine should smell like citrus after using this cleaner.

4. Avoid using a lot of detergent. Detergent can be a good breeding ground for molds and bacteria. Detergent residues can also turn rancid because of the animal fats incorporated in them. You would want to use only the recommended amount of detergent. If you are using a front load washer, a little bit of detergent can go a long way.
