Comparison Between Concealed Baths And Other Options

by Babak Tavakoli

Nowadays, when homeowners want to unwind in their homes, after a hard day's work, they usually do so in their bathrooms. This makes the bathroom one of their favorite unwinding and relaxing rooms in the home. Thus, the perception that people had of bathrooms being just a place to get clean and wash up has completely changed.

Therefore, the bathtub plays a useful role in your bathroom, enabling you to wash up; coupled with the added luxury of relaxing in and enjoying a long bubble bath as you unwind. Nowadays, the bathtub is part and parcel of many bathing spaces in Australian homes. The choice you are now left with is the particular type of tub to install in your bathroom. This depends on your bathroom space, design, style, preference, and taste.

Concealed baths are a particularly unique option, which can fit in varying bathroom designs and layouts. Here's how such a tub compares with other varieties:

(i) Concealed baths

This variety has all the pipework in the wall, ceiling or floor of the bathroom. These are hidden in such a way that the only parts visible to you are the taps, temperature adjustment controls and shower head. Such a design makes it quite convenient for you to clean, and bathe children as well as pets.

(ii) Alcove baths

This design was the most common bathtub that many people grew up using. The installation is placed along the wall in a way that leaves useful space in the bathroom center. It has faucets that are also mounted on the wall, giving you unhindered space to add a shower.

Although not as efficient as a concealed bathtub, an alcove bath is very economical because it requires a small amount of finishing on its exterior.

(iii) Corner baths

Corner baths bear some similarities to the alcoves, since they easily fit in bathroom corners. They can be installed diagonally, to make the room feel more open, or along the wall, to save space on the floor. A wide variety of styles are available, which suit different types of bathroom layouts. You can install it next to your bathroom vanity or cabinet, if you want to save some extra space.

As you may already realize, corner baths tend to work best if your main intention is to maximize on limited bathroom space, unlike concealed baths which would look good whether in spacious rooms or small spaces.

(iv) Freestanding baths

Freestanding baths come in different designs and sizes. They could either have claw feet or balled pedestal feet. They also do not require any faucet drilling, making their installation easy. Various designs, featuring a sloped back would offer you a very comfortable position to soak in.

Admittedly, freestanding baths are very showy, making them much more suited for high-end bathroom designs. On the other hand, concealed baths are mostly unobtrusive, making them quite useful in a regular household bathroom.

(v) Walk-in baths

This type of tub is very convenient for people who are physically disabled, for whom mobility is a challenge. These baths have their doors built in such a way that you can open them from the side making them very easy to use. Most of these baths have a chair-height seat that is built into it, making it convenient to use.

Understandably, most people would only install walk-in tubs if there are people with physical disabilities who need it. Most often, a concealed tub would serve the needs of most households.
