Anantnag – Abode of Lakes and Springs
Anantnag is a district in the southern sector of Jehlum Valley. The district is famous for its rejuvenating climate, lofty mountains and the melodious flow of sweet waters of its springs and streams. Anantnag as the name says is a land of countless springs. The Verinag spring is considered as the original source of river Jehlum. Pine trees and evergreen plants cover the spring. Daksum is another famous tourist sport in the south east of Anantnag town. This pictorial scenic spot located in a dense forests. Trout fish are available in the gushing stream flows through Daksum. Kounsarnagh is an another location of tourist interest in Anantnag which is considered as the source of River Vishou. The highest waterfall of Valley can be seen in Ahrabal. Pleasant climate and the natural waterfall attracts most of the visitors. Nagabal is another famous Hindu religious center in Anantnag. Several holy temples and springs can be seen in the place. Kheer Bhawani Temple is a sacred temple at the sacred spring at Tula Mula village. It is said that on the eighth day of the full moon in the month of May the goddess changes the color of the spring’s waters. The Anantnag district is not only the rice bowl of the Valley, it is equally rich in landscape. The nature has been generous in gifting the district with places of unparallel beauty. The district can rightly boast of possessing the largest number of health resorts in the whole State. Of them particular mention may be made of Verinag, Kokernag, Achabal, Daksum and world famous health resort of Pahalgam.
