Goal Setting: Troubles In Accomplishing Your Own Goals

by Doug Carlisle

Goals and objectives are basically stepping stones that enable us to become better individuals. When you have too many goals set for yourself, will you manage to achieve every one of them? If you are really good at prioritizing, perhaps you might make it work. But quite often, we become too distracted with too many goals and objectives that we lose focus on which plans we need to carry out first, and which of them we have to complete later. We might work on everything all at once or, we become so overwhelmed that we just don't do anything. Check out the goal setting programs such as the Covey community and Gary Ryan Blair and make sure to accomplish one target each time. This is far more plausible and realistic than going through everything all at the same time.

Concentrating On A Lot Of Goals At Once

Setting lots of goals and objectives for yourself is generally a positive thing, as long as you can pace yourself and prioritize your objectives. Nevertheless, there are those who end up too enthusiastic with their goals that they start working on everything simultaneously! Think about it this way: you would like to become a musician. You make an effort to learn playing the guitar, the bass, the piano, and the drums. All at once! Do you think you would be able to accomplish such an ambitious objective? When you didn't have anything else you need to do every single day, then you would. But most of us must also deal with work and family.

Not Following Through With Their Desired Goals

Setting a lot of goals and accomplishing them all at the same time causes this problem. Once your brain gets preoccupied with obtaining a different target, you completely dismiss the preceding one. What's worse is that even when you do obtain your latest objective, you either fail to remember that you haven't achieved your other goals and objectives yet, or you feel that you're not motivated anymore to accomplish your prior goals. Therefore, you end up not following through with the rest of them.

Setting Goals And Objectives Which Are Much Too Simple

When you set objectives for yourself, you mustn't opt for the goals that you know you can obtain right away. Once you set your objectives too low, you won't manage to propel yourself to genuinely obtain it. There wouldn't be any feeling of urgency, since you know you can do it anytime you want. These kinds of objectives also don't assist in improving any aspect of your life. If you take goal setting programs such as the Covey community and Gary Ryan Blair, try to challenge yourself more by choosing ambitions which you know are beyond your current situation. By doing this you'd definitely make an effort to improve yourself in order to achieve it.
