Opportunities Galore for the Bilingual

by John Whiting

The world is ever changing. We have seen fads come and go, bands come and go, and hot markets come and go. But there is one thing that has kept on getting hotter, that is the need for someone to translate. Virtually every area you can think of needs someone to translate for them. If you haven’t thought about the possibility of you translating, maybe you should start.I can’t think of a college when I was looking that didn’t require at least some foreign language in high school. Most college actually have a requirement for you to take a few semesters before you graduate. This makes a student more well rounded and can only help them out. I remember when I took Spanish back in high school my teacher accompanied the police department to help them out when they needed a translator and they paid PRETTY well. But why is it so popular?International trade is essential in the business world. It’s a matter of economics and is fairly complicated, but to put it simply… it’s all about getting things cheaper so you can sell it for more profit. The companies that participate in this trade need people to translate for them. They are also willing to pay large sums of money for these people. But that’s not the only area that needs it.Many companies have a whole slew of ethnicities that come to them every day and some of which cant speak English well or at all. This is where the translator comes in. There are virtually thousands of places that could use this skill. They to are willing to pay. Have you gotten the picture yet? A second language is in dire need and companies are willing to pay more to those who have it. If you have a job where your company will pay for you to go back to college, why not take advantage of this and learn a second language? Perhaps your still in school, why not take another language to open up new doors for yourself when you graduate? Choosing a language depends on the current needs of employers and certain areas. I know in my area Hmong is really in need. But perhaps the best language to learn would be Spanish. Executives of some of the largest companies have said that Spanish is by far number one when it comes to languages they need. Way after that comes Japanese, Chinese, German and French. Really any language you choose you can’t go wrong. Just check out your local need. Now that you have read this, hopefully you realize how important it is to either go back to school and learn a second language or try and include it in your next semester’s schedule. This trend is sure to last and I guarantee that this will open up doors for you or your children that you never thought possible. Just be sure to save up a little of that extra income you’ll be receiving.
