Companies – Like BT – Fight for Subscribers

by Kathryn Lang

BT is just one of the telecoms that are working to satisfy the demands of the UK subscribers. With the competition coming not only from other landline communications, but now coming from VOIP and other nontraditional services, companies are having to work hard to hold on to customers.

One the method to do this, and to lure new customers as well, is for the telcos to cut the costs of all telephone packages. BT has done this by reducing non-basic packages by a third.

The traditional telecommunications market has been taking a large hit over the last few years. With the recent relaxation of regulations, these same companies are finding a way to make a come back. BT announced that for the first time in several years, its home phone services had actually grown. An even market would have been exciting to a company who had been losing around 100,000 customers per month.

Cutting prices is just one way that companies can ensure a lasting relationship with its customers. Support, innovations, and quality are all things that today’s consumer is demanding. Companies like BT are committing resources to enhance the quality of services, create an active marketing strategy, and all the while maintaining innovative pricing and cost effectiveness. The cut-throat, ever-changing atmosphere of the telephone industry demands that companies stay on the cutting edge of the technology.

BT is looking to maintain their share (and eventually increase the share) of the communications market by recognizing customers needs in a changing world. A telecom that stagnates in yesterday’s technology will quickly die. Today’s customers are not only demanding, but they are educated in their choices. The wise company will keep a close eye on customers to ensure its ability to meet their demands.

The key to survival in this telecommunications market is progress, growth, and possibility. BT is only one of the UK telecoms aiming to meet all of these areas.
