Credit Lawyers - What You Should Look For When Hiring

by Jason Abmramsons

Credit lawyers do in deed have more tools at their disposal to dispute and remove negative items on your report. Further, they will be experts and familiar in all consumer finance laws.

It is often a good idea to hire a professional to handle such an important an influential document. This document determines your score and can cause you to pay; high interest rates, high fees, and let us not forget the potential for embarrassment if you are declined.

Stop, wasting your hard earned money on these unnecessary fees and enjoy the life a good score can provide. Such as; saving for your child's education, purchasing a home and building equity, enjoying vacations, even just being able to go out for a nice night on the town. A damaged report is literally the only thing keeping you from a better, secure and more comfortable lifestyle.

What To Look For

Small Up Front Fee - You should not pay any more than $100 as a retainer. This is a normal fee. We have heard horror stories of consumers paying upwards of $3,000 upfront! Please don't fall victim!

Monthly Fee - You can plan on spending $39 - $99 per month, depending on the level of service you need or want. A common time frame to fix a credit report is 6 months to 12 months, this of course is not a rule and will depend on how much work needs to be done on your report. However we have seen lawyers bill clients on an hourly basis. The average attorney bills between $200 - $500 an hour. If you are being charged for calling to find out the status and for all the work, you could end up spending much more than is necessary!

Look For Refunds - No Guarantees - Like it or not, when it comes to fixing a damaged report you can't guarantee any results. This isn't to say that millions if not billions of individuals reports have been fixed but a guarantee can not be made. If you see a company or firm offer you a guarantee, you should run! Instead look for a refund and at what prior customers have to say about their experience with the firm.

Experience - How long has this company been in business? What is their reputation? What results have they had and what documentation or proof do they have to back this up?

Credit attorneys and services have had a questionable past. With every industry there are those that try and use short cuts and 'game the system' and early in the days of fixing a low score these guys were able to use a short cut. However the finance system has since responded to prevent this and instituted new and always evolving methods of calculating your score.

While it is 100% legal to dispute and fix your report, there are still crooks out there. Make sure to do your homework before making a decision and with these 4 tips to guide you, I am confident you will make the right decision.
