What keeps the electron and proton separated.
The magnetic trap.
In the simplest atom, the Protium atom, there are three main components. One, is the proton and one is the electron. The other is what keeps them apart the magnetosphere, the third part.Compare this to the ability of the magnetosphere around the Earth to trap cosmic rays, and to produce aurora borealis effects of light and movement as evidence, and it can be inferred the same would happen in the micro realm.... we would be getting a sheilding effect between the electron and the proton. The Van Allen radiation belts are comparible to the shells or "sheilds" of electron orbits in atoms. For an electron to reach a proton it must cross a magnetic field,( an allowed orbit in an atom )It takes a change of energy to change levels. If the electron gains energy it will overpower the field. But the majority of the time, the electrons are resisted by the proton's magnetosphere, to a stable state. This magnetic sheilding is what keeps the two apart. The orbital path of the earth around the sun is centripetal because mass attracts mass. But the attraction for charge is electrical and moving charges produce magnetism which acts according to Lenz law. thank you.
