Healthy Skin is Beautiful Skin

A Guide To Great Skin

by Jack Mack

Skin is the largest organ in our body and makes up on average about 5% of our body weight, has an average surface area of 1.5-2 metres and contains more than a thousand nerve endings. It can be cut, burned, stretched, scratched, painted and radiated only to repair itself to leave nothing save for maybe a small scar. Its cells have a lifetime of approximately 30 days, meaning that every 30 days your skin cells fall off and you grow new ones. (Luckily not all at once.) Skin is an amazing thing and we should all look after our own as best as we can for health reasons and of course, for beauty reasons.

In order to keep your skin looking soft, clean and healthy there are a number of steps you can take to help maintain its properties.

Keep it Clean

Dirty skin can be incredibly bad for its health. Your skin has a complex ecosystem of its own, made up of millions of bacteria living in harmony to keep your skin working to its optimum level. It protects you against damage and UV rays and keeps you smelling nice. Dirty skin disrupts this natural ecosystem and can not only cause damage and infections but it can leave you smelling not so nice.

Avoid Unnecessary Harassment

Your skin likes to be left alone, but when you do feel like adding to it make sure you do so with the best products and be careful not to use anything you may be allergic to. You should also avoid tattoos, as they permanently damage your skin and can leave you with an infection when unhygienically administered. Avoid smoking as this can cause premature thinning of the skin, not to mention causing internal damage to you. Cosmetic surgery such as skin lifts, laser hair removal and chemical peels may produce an improved presentation now, but as you get older your skin will not be as healthy as it was.

Treat it Nicely

Skin likes to be kept clean and moistened. It will thank you for using a good quality soap which is pH balanced and exfoliating regularly to remove dead skin cells and to allow your new cells growing underneath to breath. Cosmetics should be used sparingly and should be removed everyday as when left on they can suffocate your skin underneath, not to mention leaving marks on your pillow. Buying reputable cosmetics from big brand companies like rimmel cosmetics can also add to peace of mind. The same goes for perfumes, relying on reputable brands like ghost perfume will ultimately be better than investing in inferior products. Finally properly fitting clothing is important as clothes which are too tight can not only suffocate your skin but cause burns, rubbing and cuts.

Look after your skin!
