How To Achieve Contentment

by Adele Bantle

At some time in your later years you may wonder, whether you have ever lived your purpose, whether you have done the things you used to dream about and perhaps still do? Have you perhaps missed out on education and would like to catch up, acquire knowledge, or are there courses you would have liked to attend but couldn't because family commitments always came first!

The happiest people are those who have recognised that first and foremost, one must be comfortable with one's own identity. Is your life controlled by other people (partner, elderly parents, children), or by habits like over-eating, smoking, shopping and are you fulfilled? Do you have goals? Did you bury the dreams you had?

Contentment is possible but only by working on ourselves and loving ourselves. It is not necessary to drastically change everything tomorrow! Small changes, day by day will eventually take you to your desired goal. The important part is to have or set a goal. For each person contentment represents something totally different. The key to this is first and foremost, analysing what contentment would mean. For this question to be answered, we must go deep inside ourselves, see if there is a void, seek out what action could fill it. If you are still searching for your purpose make a list of all the dreams you ever had, all the things you thought you would do when you have more time. Write absolutely everything down. Examine too what your believe system is telling you. Have you had negative programming in the past with phrases like "you can't do that"?

Take encouragement from people who have overcome great obstacles and achieved extraordinary things. Many women who were stuck in a boring job, suddenly re-discovered their hobbies and turned them into a business. I constantly hear of such stories and I am in utter admiration of these women.

We are so governed in our thinking by the world around us, the media, that very often unthinkingly we accept what we are told.

But to live your own life, you must start questioning, make decisions on your own, seek out people who support you, not those who hold you back by jealousy and envy.

Perhaps it is time to get the help of a Life Coach to help you get on the right path.

There are many Personal Coaching programs on offer. Take the plunge and begin another phase in your life that is geared to your personal achievement.

You deserve to live a life in which you find your fulfilment and purpose.
