Make Tennis Injuries A Thing Of The Past

by Ben Harvey

As you know, tennis is a rigorous sport that requires an incredible amount of hand eye-coordination, endurance, agility, flexibility and strength. It demands bursts of energy, that don’t stop until the point is over. Tennis is a game of physical prowess as much as a game of skill, so what do you do when you find that you still have the skill but you don’t have the body power to back it? Well, we don’t want you to give up the match just yet, read these tips on how to keep up with those long rallies!

Some of the most common injuries in tennis occur in the knees, ankles, calves, shoulders, wrists and back. You’re probably thinking, great, that pretty much covers everything. Well that may just about be true, but there are ways to avoid tennis injuries in general. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including working on your flexibility and core strength, is a great way to avoid some these common injuries.

By focusing attention on your back and abdominal muscles, your body will be more likely to remain aligned. One great way to accomplish this is through light stomach exercises such as crunches (always be sure to support your neck) as well as regular massage for your back. Frequently massaging your back helps to reduce harmful muscle tension that can pull your spine out of alignment.

Poor spine alignment can lead to a variety of tennis injuries including all of those listed above. For example, if your spine tilts slightly due to a tight muscle on one side of your back, your hips are forced to tilt as well. This places additional strain not only on your hips, but on your knees and ankles as well.

One great way to avoid unnecessary tennis injuries is to keep your back in shape through regular massage. If you can’t afford to visit a massage therapist on a regular basis then robotic massage chairs can be a great substitute. They are far more cost effective and can be used in the comfort of your own home! In fact, if you use a massage chair every day, then even the nicest massage chairs cost less than $2 a massage. That’s less than a can of tennis balls!
