Why Are Some Perfumes Cheaper Than Others?
Do you like to smell good not cheap?
Have you ever wondered why it is that you can spend almost £100 on one bottle of smelly stuff and just a few pounds of another, despite the fact they both smell nice? Last time you smelled a brilliant new fragrance on someone's neck did you immediately know that it was expensive...probably not? The thing about perfume is that it's invisible. This means that once it has left the bottle it can be hard to gauge how much it cost, unless of course you recognise the smell as that of an expensive brand. Here are some reasons why cheap perfumes can still smell nice:

Quality

The cost of a fragrance can be judged by how long it stays smelly for. The properties of each chemical found in more expensive pong are tailored to allow a longer natural progression of aroma as the day progresses and your body temperature changes. You will find that cheaper perfumes stop smelling faster. This is a sign of cheaper base chemicals at the heart of the product. If you don't mind the smell dying out quicker, then you will be happy with a cheaper perfume.

Buying in Bulk

Companies buy perfume in bulk from the manufacturer. When they do this the size of the order usually decides how much they pay per unit. Some companies sell the perfume at recommended retail price and pocket the profit while others who want to sell designer fragrances cheap will sell the perfume cheaper and take a small percentage of the profits.

Label

The general public are suckers for a big shiny label. If you see a well advertised slick looking logo on the side of a bottle, that you recognise as 'that bottle from the advert with that song I like and all those models smiling and playing on the beach', then you may be more inclined to think it is better than others and more likely to spend more to have this label on your vanity unit. Less popular labels won't be able to demand a high price as they won't necessarily be as popular but can still smell very nice indeed.

Fake

If you have bagged yourself a bargain bottle of 'Chateu de Plonk for Men' at your local market, you may have just bought a fake. It is very common for criminals to have purchased cheap copies of a famous perfume brand's bottles, filled them with even cheaper aftershave and sold them to unsuspecting shoppers like you, on the cheap. Cheap perfumes, especially very cheap perfumes, should make you wary, especially if sold out the back of a van. Despite this, you may still like the smell...
