Credit Repair Business - Learn the Facts

by Jim Eastman

Are you leery of the credit repair business? Are you unsure about hiring a credit repair agency? Here are some myths about agencies of the credit repair business that you need to know before you take this action.

You may think there is enough information on the Internet to make you knowledgeable about bad credit repair. But there are lots of myths that can mislead you in the wrong direction. This discussion aims at debunking three of these myths, with the hope that it will put you back on the right track.

Myth no 1: There's no legal way to improve your credit score.

This myth has been around for a very long while. This myth is widespread due to the dishonest credit repair companies that fool their clients into thinking their bad credit can be erased in a very short time. In fact there are both legal and illegal ways. Legal ways take time, at least six months of financial discipline and focused management; while illegal methods would remove your negative accounts spuriously until the investigations on your disuptes are completed. Then you're not only stuck with the same bad credit score, but you may be notice for having submitted false information.

Myth no 2: All credit repair business companies are scammers.

This myth is widespread, and unfortunately causes people to avoid seeking help from reputable credit repair companies. In fact, although there are many scammers in the business, there are just as many, or more reputable credit repair companies whose goal is to help their clients with their problems. To know whom you can trust, check with organizations that impose strict business codes of conduct, like the Ethical Credit Repair Alliance (ECRA) and the Better Business Bureau. A credit repair business listed under these affiliations is more likely to be beyond reproach.

Myth no 3: Repairing your credit score is easy.

This is one more common myth. You can find plenty of information online in regard to credit and credit history and on how to settle all kinds of disputes. What it does not mention is the time and effort involved in identifying, notifying and pursuing matters to their logical end. Every negative item has to be followed up on an individual basis and this often is a tiring and cumbersome process, in addition to requiring a certain expertise regarding how, when and what to write when you appeal to the credit bureaus to correct your report.

As I've explained, not only is the credit repair business legitimate, but it provides a very important service to those who struggle with financial issues. Don't neglect to get help if you suffer from bad credit. You will find that using a reputable credit repair business agency is one of the best things you can do.
