Try a Grand Canyon Chopper This Spectacular Fall Season

by Lea Fallon

Fall is in full swing and now more than ever it's time to try a Grand Canyon helicopter tour. Pick from an awesome variety of Vegas and South Rim flights. Discover more. Look at this article.

Starting Point

Helicopter rides lift off from two places. You can depart from the metro Vegas area including The Strip and Boulder City, as well as Tusayan, Arizona, which is just outside the National Park. Both Vegas and South Rim feature some great tours so let's take a brief look at they are.

Nevada Air Tours

The West Rim of the Grand Canyon is only 100 miles away from Las Vegas. All Vegas flights follow the same flight path and go over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. In Las Vegas, there are two types of tours from which to chose: landing tours and air-only tours, with the landing tours offering more options.

Also, the landing tours can set down on top of the rim or on the bottom of the canyon. If you decide to land on the canyon floor, your chopper will set down near the Colorado River, which was the mighty force that carved the canyon out of rock millions of years ago. At the bottom, enjoy a Champagne picnic then do a Colorado River boat ride.

If you land on top of the rim, you'll want to visit the famous Skywalk. The Skywalk is a glass bridge that hangs over the canyon so you can walk out and stand 4000 feet above the canyon floor.

If you book an air-only tour, you'll see the same sights from the air, but you'll miss out on the ground experience.

Arizona Tours To The South Rim

Although Vegas is the most popular place for catching a Grand Canyon tour, you can also begin your tour in Arizona if you want, especially if you want to tour the South Rim. And if you're in Vegas and want to tour the South Rim, all you have to do is take a short plane ride to Tusayan so you can begin your tour.

The South Rim offers two tours from which to chose. One of them is a half hour long and takes you to the remote North Rim and circles back. The other tour lasts about an hour and it initially follows the same path as the shorter tour, but then it takes an extra leg that lets you see more of the park. You'll also fly to the eastern edge of the park, so in total, you'll fly over 75 percent of the Grand Canyon National Park.

The longer tour is the better choice because it doesn't cost that much more yet you get to see a lot more than you would on the shorter tour. Not many people can say they have seen 75 percent of the Grand Canyon!

Deluxe Tour Upgrades

Another decision you have to make is whether you will take a basic tour or a deluxe tour. Basic tours use reliable but older aircraft, while the deluxe tours use state-of-the-art sightseeing machines.

The EcoStar helicopters are used on deluxe tours and these have roomy cabins, comfy bucket seats, and fantastic views with no obstructions through the massive wraparound windshield. These are the best helicopters in service for touring the Grand Canyon by air.

Deluxe tours also come with free limo service to and from your hotel as well as a flyover of the Strip in Vegas. If your flight returns late in the day, you'll et to see the lights of Vegas come alive as you approach the city.

Summary

Touring the Grand Canyon is an amazing experience you need to do at least once. You'll have to choose which rim you want to see, if you want a landing tour or not, and if you want a basic or deluxe tour. Helicopter tours come with lots of options, which means there's just go to be a tour that meets your needs and dreams. Be sure to book your tour early so it doesn't sell out, and buy it online for the lowest price. The canyon is truly a beautiful place. Don't miss your chance to see it.

Plan your trip this fall and you can enjoy your trip in the comfort of cool weather.
