March Into Fashion With The Military Look
The military look is a constant theme in fashion which appeals to both men and women. Men like the rugged individuality, practicality and durability whereas women love the idea of combining masculine toughness with a few feminine touches here and there. Suggestions include khaki trousers, shirts and skirts; green chunky sweaters, cheap designer cufflinks, military jackets with brass buttons, lace up boots and dog tag pendants.
Military flourish
The trick to this look is to mix and match military clothing with everyday garments, for example a military shirt worn over a pair of bootleg cut jeans. Alternately, wear a classic military greatcoat complete with brass buttons and epaulettes over a single breasted suit. Avoid wearing head to toe military clothing unless you want to look like you are on leave from Her Majesty's Armed Forces. In the army now
Khaki shirts, dresses and trousers are popular with both sexes. Men should choose a black military style jacket complete with frogging over a plain shirt and flat fronted trousers for the parade ground look. A pair of highly polished boots will complete this look. Women: team a pair of khaki green leggings or a pencil skirt with a cropped jacket, suede boots and a camouflage scarf for added effect. Consider shift style dresses with military style piping, cropped jackets with epaulettes and brass buttons or mess style waistcoats worn over slim fitting jeans.
Aerial combat
If you don't want to resemble a squaddie then opt for the dashing aviator look instead. This means the classic leather or sheepskin flying jacket which is worn over jeans (men) or wide legged pants (women). There is an expensive lambskin lined version which works well with sheepskin lined ankle boots or a pair of Uggs.
An old, distressed leather flying jacket is a good choice if you want the aviation pioneer look.
Naval engagement
The nautical look is a staple of the fashion world who rework it time and time again. But how does this fit into the military theme? Go for a more formal look with a crisp blue blazer with brass buttons and gold decoration for a naval officer look rather than the striped matelot jersey and cropped pants combo.
For women, a smart naval style jacket works well over a casual pair of jeans, smart skirt or dress. Add a few accessories such as a striped silk scarf, necklace and handbag with an anchor or rope motif.
A navy pair of chinos, white military style t-shirt and aviator sunglasses works well for men. Add a few naval themed accessories such as a pair of white plimsolls, anchor themed pendant and a flat cap (in white).
