by Patrick Hammond

Art deco is one of the largest and impressive field of modern art. It also plays a significant and lavish role in the world of modern art. Its intense colors and comprehensive curves symbolize its trademarked boldness that conveyed the advances and progression of the modern art. If you are planning of collecting various art deco, there are lots and lots of art auction these day, either online or offline.

This past century the decorative arts assembled in what is recognized as the art deco development. This development manipulated the fashion, architecture, design and visual art industry. The phrase was taken from the event held in Paris in 1925, popularly known as the “Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Modernes”.

However, the development and phrase “art deco” that originated from the above mentioned event was not quite known until the late part of the sixties. The said is true especially during the pre-war period of Europe. Most of the countries during that period were influenced by the said development while the other countries were also going through the same movements in the artistic world.

The major fraction of the development was caused and encouraged by the speedy advancement of technology and other social factors and as the worldwide culture reacted on the change during the early period of the twentieth century, the art deco development product of the event. The development of the art deco was regarded as a diverse form of the decorative innovation, and was thought to be influenced by various forms of art and artist. Almost all of the decorative arts these days are influenced by the said phenomena.

Known for its richness and styles, the art deco is ascribed to the rigors of culture caused by the first world conflict. Robust patterns, daring colors and forms were utilized, as well as numerous distinct designs were commonly used.

The “Radio City Music Hall” auditorium is just one of the few great examples. The motifs that were applied to the said structure are products of the art deco movement. Also, the pyramidal or conical apex of the “Chrysler Building” is a product of the art deco movement.

The art deco movement was somewhat lost in the west during the second world conflict; however, the designs and patterns were still in use in colonial countries (India for one) all the way through the sixties. They were also used as the medium to modernization. The art deco movement then made a huge comeback in the eighties through the means of graphic designing. The involvement of the art deco with the genres of the 1930s films led its way to the advertisement of fashion and jewelry industry.

These days, the art deco is well-regarded my most people. However, some critics consider it as too extravagant. It has received some negative critics even though it is one of the main factors of most of the designs and patterns found these days. Like most of today’s artistic designs, the art deco is an interpretation of an individual’s artistic mind. And is one of the most popular movements in the world of art. Maybe because of its extensive influence and the influences it has made to the art culture and forms. A great deal of the cultures around the world had experienced and is experiencing the same advancement in terms of technological designs and the production. That is why most of the characteristics and ideas are somewhat the same in various countries around the world.
