Parties for Toddlers
Parties for toddlers involve lots of activities. Why so many you might ask? Because a toddler's attention span is very short, and when they aren't being stimulated they can often start becoming hyper and restless, so best to be prepared.
Activities could be playing with dolls or stuffed animals, but the more interactive they are the better. Activities that involve creating something, building something or running around and exerting energy are typically those that will grab their attention.
When planning a toddler's birthday party try:
Hosting it outside:
If weather permits, getting children outside is a great idea. They can enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, while running around or playing on jungle gym equipment. This will keep them entertained, while dispensing their energy so that they can have a good night sleep. If you are going to take children outside in the heat, make sure that they are wearing sunscreen, drinking lots of water, and staying in the shade as much as possible.
Playing energy-exerting games:
Even if the weather doesn't permit you to be outdoors, you might still want to host your child's birthday party in an environment where they can run around and exert their energy. Gym games like red rover, tag, red light green light, or leap frog are always big hits amongst children. Swimming can also be fun although a bit more time-consuming, and certainly a greater responsibility for supervisors.
Arts and Crafts:
Arts and crafts are always a winner and a personal favourite. Bear in mind however, that they tend to be a bigger hit amongst children who are slightly older and more concerned by having finished pieces to take home. Arts and crafts are good for toddlers cause it gets their creative juices flowing, and often, real talents can come out. Just make sure that the activities you set up aren't going to cause too much of a mess, or if they do, be prepared with newsprint on the floor and easy to clean surfaces.
Music:
Children love music. It gets them excited as much as it calms them down. They especially love it when they start learning the words themselves- gives them a real sense of accomplishment. Singing songs is a great way to stop a toddler from crying or calm them down when they're throwing a bit of a fit. Favourite songs include, the wheels on the bus, twinkle twinkle, Old Macdonald and the itsy, bitsy spider.
Having lots of little ones around is adorable and fun - just make sure that they have lots to do!
