Why You Should Build Your Own Skateboard

by William Jason

Buying a top of the line, tricked out skateboard can get quite expensive for even the most enthusiastic skater. While everyone dreams of having the best board on the market, there is something to be said about building your own skateboard. A custom skateboard you build yourself can flaunt your personal style, be tricked out how exactly how you want it, and still be less expensive than a high end board.

Once you learn how to build your own board, you will be shocked at how much you are saving (if you shop wisely) and how outrageous the price of pro skateboards truly are. I believe every skateboarder should know how to build their own boards, because even if you wreck your board, you will know exactly how to rebuild it, and where to go to get it done cheaply.

So why is it much cheaper to build your own board? Pre-made boards are a luxury and you are basically paying for the labor to have it put together. With a mix of research and a little elbow grease, any skate punk can be building their own board easily - with their eyes closed!

Also, let's face it, how many boards on the market will meet your specific skating needs? By building your own board you will not only be saving money, but tricking your board out to your own specifications, creating a truly unique board that is yours alone.

Imagine having the exact deck you want, that fits you to a T. You can add the trucks you want and the exact wheels you want without paying extra for the wheels that come on the pre-made boards. You can even have the board custom painted so it is unlike any board your friends have.

Of course, you could always buy a lame cheap board. You know, the kind that kicks out every time and usually ends up splitting when you are in the middle of the perfect grind. In many cases, the amount you paid for the lame, cheap board, is about what you could be paying to build your own board.

If you are in to saving money and having a unique and killer board that no one else owns, I suggest you learn how to build your own skateboard. Or you could be lame and buy a cheap one off the shelf, and pray it doesn't split when you are doing your next trick!
