How To Make A Website That Search Engines Hate

by Daniel Harbeck

Building a website correctly takes time and patience. You never learn what works best unless you make a few mistakes. However, you may not have time to make mistakes when you are trying to build a business. Learning how to make a website that shines will require an understanding of what not to do. Here are a few things to avoid when making your site.

Too Much Emphasis On SEO

Your site needs to be optimized in order to be found. You should understand that SEO is one area where you can get too much of a good thing. It may be tempting to stuff your keywords into an article as many times as possible. Visitors don't want to read that stuff because it is usually too choppy to comprehend. Focusing on your keywords as opposed to strong content also reeks of spam. Stick to a keyword density of about one instance of a word or phrase every 100 words or so.

Use Keywords With Too Much Or Too Little Recognition

There is a science to drawing traffic to your site. Make sure you are using keywords that aren't being used so often your site would never rank well. On the other hand, never use keywords that no one is using. The goal is to find the sweet spot between the two extremes. Using credit cards as a keyword will result in millions of pages showing up. Using a term like Goldfish may not get you many hits regardless of where your page is ranked. Your site is never going to be found unless you research the current search trends on a regular basis.

Hiding Links

Placing white links on a white background may fool web spiders into thinking you have placed a valid link on your site. This is a very dishonest way to increase the SEO value of your site. Anything you place on your website should be visible to the visitor. How are you going to build a rapport with your customers if you are being dishonest from the very beginning?

Gaining Links From Low Quality Sites

It is up to you to inspect any links to your site. Low quality inbound links are going to destroy the reputation of your site. You should be able to find easy to use tools that will allow you to see where your links are coming from. Always know where you are linking to as well. Putting a link on a low quality site won't help you out either. Try to link to blogs that have a good reputation. Social media sites can be another good place to post links to your site. Keep in mind that social media links are no-follow. No-follow links aren't as beneficial to you as do-follow links.

Knowing what not to do when making your site can guide you to effective methods of building your site. Watch out for too many instances of your keywords within a piece of content. Link building strategies are only efficient if you link to high quality sites. Never hide links in the background because that is just dishonest. Avoiding these tactics should enable you to create a quality site you are proud of.
