Are polyphonic ring tones getting old fashioned?

Polyphonic ring tones are a better version of ring tones than monophonic ring tones. Polyphonic ring tones, wherein multiple notes are played to bring out better sound quality in ring tones, were received well after monophonic ring tones among mobile phone users, who wanted some good quality of sound for their mobile phone handsets. They have been incorporated in many mobile phone handsets since then to improve the overall feel of the handset. Polyphonic ring tones have also played a major part in the personalization of handsets.

But, with the coming of age of a large number of other types of mobile phone ring tones, a question arises. Is the popularity of polyphonic ring tones waning? Mobile phone ring tones such as true tones, Mp3 ring tones, real tones and others have created a distinct position for themselves in the minds of mobile phone users. All these categories of downloadable ring tones are highly endeared by a large cross-section of the population for a number of different reasons. For one, they are better than polyphonic ring tones in terms of the level of customization that can be achieved using these mobile phone ring tones. True tones for instance enable a user to listen to his / her favorite music track as a mobile phone ring tone. Voice tones are another special type of mobile phone ring tones that can include celebrity voice ring tones, funny voice ring tones as well as political voice ring tones.

Technology has permitted a high level of personalization in mobile phone handsets through the downloading and playing of these sophisticated mobile phone ring tones. Some of the latest models of mobile phones are either WAP or GPRS enabled and have the capability to support these diverse types of mobile phone ring tones. However, this technology is yet to reach the mass market for mobile telecommunication services as well as applications. And many of the older models of mobile phones do not have the specialized capabilities to play many of these innovative mobile phone ring tones.

So there are two opposite forces acting on the popularity of mobile phone ring tones. The limited technological capabilities to support the better versions of mobile phone ring tones often go in favor of polyphonic ring tones. On the other hand, the high level of customization possible with other forms of mobile phone ring tones is denting to the popularity of polyphonic ring tones to some extent.

We can conclude by saying that downloading polyphonic ring tones have tilled now maintained their position in the mobile telecommunication marketplace. They have not become old fashioned till now; and are still being appreciated by mobile phone users. However, with the wide spread availability of sophisticated mobile phone handsets in the mobility marketplace, tomorrow could very well tell a different story altogether.
