The foundation and history of Lima should be understood to fully appreciate the value of the experience that can be had during the holidays. From the early colonial period until the colonies won their independence, Lima was the capital of Spanish South America. The city was famous for its wealth and beauty and it rivaled most European cities for its cultural life with many lima hotels and lima restaurants. Many of these “kings” were destroyed in an earthquake in1746. The only thing left was approximately 3,000 houses left of the city. Then the rebuilding had to begin.

Today this great city is the brightest city of approximately 8 million and it has many diverse contrasts. It is comprised of the many 17th century architecture and in contrast 21st century skyscrapers that include the elite and the streets that include the most impoverished.

Past these busy streets you can be led to some tranquil squares where you can sit down and enjoy an Inka-Cola at a local lima restaurant while you reflect on the holiday preparations in full swing in Peru!

Amongst the bustle of the inner city are many smaller cities that encompass the heart of old Lima and should be considered in holiday planning. One of the popular suburbs of Lima is Miraflores, a small but cosmopolitan place to find yourself sitting in the Parque Kennedy or strolling along avenues. The ocean is only a few minutes from the shopping of Larcomar, like the lima hotels that are in the heart of the city the Marriott hotel located in the center of Miraflores is a beacon of cosmopolitan look in this great city. The centre is built overlooking the ocean along the cliffs that surround Lima. Then the Parque del Amor where some find themselves in a romantic setting also adds to the attraction.

Another seaside attraction can be found in Barranco. This spot was a resort since the 1600’s and at night it is a bright light seen from the Pacific. The place that can be seen as an artist scenery filled with restaurants of a variety of cultures and points of interest. Such as the Bridge of Sighs or “ El Puente de los Suspiros. The nightlife will attract fancy party-goers as well as young trendsetters enjoying a bottle of Cuzqueñas. This is the perfect place to start or end your holiday in Peru!
