How to Start Writing Fiction

Fiction books are probably the most popular type of book available. If you enjoy reading a good story it’s just the ticket. Fiction books can take you to the moon if you so desire.

If you have a good idea, then write about it, go for it. Writing a novel is something anyone can do, although for some it is more natural and there is less work involved. But even if it’s not natural, it may be something you still want to do and all you need are a few fantastic phrases to make it work. Work hard and you can achieve a great piece of fiction writing. Keep at it and don’t give up.

If you’ve already been thinking about writing fiction then you already probably have an idea of what you want to write about. The ideas have probably been buzzing around in your head for days. Sometimes, just one good idea is enough to start you on the road to writing your novel and the rest just falls into place. Alternatively, getting started can be the worst part and until you overcome this it will be tough. Think about your one idea, describe it, write it down!

This is your basis to carry on with your novel – once you have the description of what it’s going to be about, you can carry on and expand with more details. Who, what and why? Keep these words at the forefront of your mind when writing fiction. How do they all mix together – why is he walking down the road and why is she coming in the opposite direction? It is using this basis that all stories are made. By assigning words to the thought process, you can speed up the natural process of writing.

So, you need to start somewhere – to produce high quality fiction you need to have your topic of writing clear. It’s not normal for the words to jump out of the paper to you and start writing themselves. You need to work at it, the ideas and stories will come to your mind.

One other clue here. Pick out an author you like. Get a bestseller of that author. Become a brain surgeon. Take the book to pieces. See how they put it all together. Copy the method for your book. Voila!
