Document Scanning and My Job
I spent more than a year managing an office - make that trying to manage an office - with an ancient printer and a computer illiterate boss who wanted everything on paper. It was absolute torture. Knowing the limits of our system and how easy things could have been weighed on my shoulder like a backpack full of heavy rocks. I am not suggesting that digital systems are perfect, but so much paperwork is just so redundant. With the help of an established document scanning business I know that we could have made that old business very successful. More importantly my job with the aid of document imaging would have been a genuine joy and possibly something I might have tried to stick with.
We have all had bad jobs, I know that mine was not a special experience. That said it burns me up knowing that I offered a number of great solutions to the problems we were facing and they were ignored. It wasn't just the document scanning issue, but as an office manager shouldn't managing office documents have been deferred to me?! What's the point to working there at all if every idea I have whether it's putting cheaper paper towels in the bathroom or hiring a document scanning service is met with pig-headed opposition? I am only venting now because I finally can. To have written this blog post while I was still there would have made my blood boil. It would seriously be bad for my already not great blood pressure.
Now that I work at a company smart enough to employ a company with document scanning services I am much happier. What's more they got the idea for bringing in that document imaging company from me! Like I made a suggestion and they took it! I feel so differently about work now that I know my ideas are being integrated with everyone else's. Times are tough and beggars can't be choosers when it comes to employment but it is incredibly gratifying to have found people who really appreciate your input.
My hope is, now that I am in such a rewarding environment I can truly reach the peek of my potential. Introducing the people at my new job to document scanning service is just the first step on my ascent up the corporate ladder. If the amount of pats on the back and kudos I got for the document imaging is any indication I would say you can start calling me "Vice President" in the next three months. Just kidding, but really I'm feeling proud and satisfied again for the first time in a while!
