by Shannon Carvaldo

Often natural home remedies are just as effective treatments as manufactured products. There are many ailments that can be treated using products found at home. One benefit of home remedies is that they don't contain chemicals that can be irritating to the body. There are also many home remedies for hemorrhoids that can help to solve the problem.

When trying to determine a proper treatment for hemorrhoids the first step is to understand the root cause of your hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids can be divided into two categories, external and internal hemorrhoids. External hemorrhoids protrude externally through the rectal sphincter and can be seen outside of the body. Internal hemorrhoids develop in the anal canal and are not visible.

Hemorrhoids can be caused by many things including straining during bowel movements, hard stool, constipation, weight gain and pregnancy. Symptoms of hemorrhoids include bleeding during bowel movement, itching and external irritation of the rectal area.

Home remedies for hemorrhoids have been used successfully for years and are often just as effective as over the counter creams and ointments. Alterations in diet to include more fiber can be an effective way to treat and prevent hemorrhoids. Lack of fiber in the diet is often the cause of hard stools which can account for excessive straining during bowel movements.

Individually and in conjunction hard stools and straining can cause the development of hemorrhoids. In addition to increased fruit and vegetable consumption, all natural flax seed and psyllium seed husks can be added to homemade recipes such as cookies, muffins and granola to increase fiber consumption and naturally stimulate the bowels.

Warm water and ice packs are both remedies that anyone suffering from hemorrhoids can appreciate. A simple sitz bath is a safe, effective and simple home remedy for hemorrhoids. Drugstores often sell sitz bowls that can be placed on the toilet and filled with water however, a bathtub is just as effective.

Simply place warm water in the bowl or bath and soak the area for 15-20 minutes. If using a bathtub fully expose the area by sitting with knees bent. If possible, allow the area to air dry before dressing.

If you are suffering from acute inflammation, ice can be helpful by constricting the inflamed vessels. Put ice packs to the rectal area and let them affect from five to ten minutes. Repeat the treatment three or four times a day as long as required.

You can find also many herbs that can alleviate the symptoms of your hemorrhoids. One of the better herbs to treat hemorrhoids includes witch hazel. This herb can help to constrict vessels. You can use witch hazel by soaking a cotton ball in it and cleaning your rectum with it every time you defecate.

Neem extract has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and can be applied in the same manner as witch hazel.

If you want to use home remedies for hemorrhoids to get relief naturally, there are many effective options to choose from. You just need to find the one that is the most suitable for your own situation.
