Why You Shouldn't Retire Early

Retirement is for quitters!

by Sam Qam

There is a great deal of pressure building on people approaching retirement age these days to retire before they have reached their legally required age. This is largely due to the size of the unemployment crisis in the UK and due to cost cutting measures put in place by many public sector organisations. They would love to make every person on a salary that has been growing naturally overtime and replace them with someone younger who is on a lower salary for doing the same job.

This article is going to give you a few of the main reasons why you should not retire under any circumstances:

You Feel Older When You Retire

The difference you feel in yourself when you stop working is quite alarming. While it may seem like a nice idea to never have to go to work again, you will soon miss it. Not having someone relying on you to do something, not having responsibilities and not having to be somewhere each day, eventually makes you feel useless and unhappy. Even saying you are retired can make you feel older than you really are. The longer you keep working the longer you will feel young.

You Will Miss Work

Your life until now has probably been spent building up your knowledge and experience so that you are one of the best at what you do. Retiring is like throwing all that in the bin. As long as your skills can still be used to help people, you will miss the opportunity to do so when you retire and go looking for retirement homes for sale. You will also miss the feeling of being at work and of contributing to a common goal. Even if you are self-employed installing walk in baths, you will miss the feeling of helping people and being rewarded for a job well done. Or egos need to be fuelled as much as our bellies.

You Will Be Healthier

Unless you are a stunt man or you work down a coal mine, you will stay healthier for longer if you keep working for as long as you can. Your mind will be kept active for longer and your body will keep working better the longer you give it something to do. Even if do stop doing your normal job you should start volunteering just so that you have something to do. Like a classic car, your body needs to be taken out and used regularly to stop it from rusting.
