Kansas Lawyers: The Way They Got To Where They Are Today

by Andrew Bui

Kansas lawyers generally reduce themselves to practicing only one specific type of law. Generally those who go into law school are already rather aware of what type of law they want to practice upon exiting. Previous to stating their specialty, students must obtain their proper degree.

It is first important to understand that there are three different types of law degree available to those who are entering law school. They are the Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.), the Master of Laws Degree (LL.M.), and finallythe Doctor of Judicial Science (S.J.D.)

The J.D. is the most basic degree for those who are pursuing a career as an attorney. The curriculum pertaining to this specialty includes basic legalese as well as an outline of the different specialties. The JD is only one of two possible master's degrees for lawyers, but it is a prerequisite for the other if they are not taken as a combined course.

The LLM is another master's degree that comes after the completion of the JD. Though it is a masters degree, just like the JD, this degree is offers more refined training. Since many lawyers do want to participate in some sort of specialty field this is a degree that almost all of them pursue. It is not by the way, the only highest possible degree for a lawyer.

The SJD is the highest form of degree that an attorney can obtain. This covers the purpose that a doctorate would in any other profession. This degree is generally saved for those who want to work as law school professors or sometimes judges.

These three post-graduate degrees make up the bulk of the educational experience that is asked of a lawyer. Upon finishing the necessary degree and passing the bar, many attorneys will find a niche type of case that they are particularly interested in and stick to it. You'll find that there are attorneys that cover things as specific as hospital medical malpractice.

You also have attorneys that work with the state their entire career and those that have their own practices from the start. There are also criminal defense attorneys, environmental law attorneys and more. There are a wide range of choices out there for new attorneys to go after.

Kansas Lawyers spend a lot of time working, but they are able to take home great earnings and are generally happy with their careers. They are able to determine, for the most part, which type of law best suits their interests. These factors also work to make this career a personal one those who work in are very passionate about.
