How does offline water purifiers work ?

Introduction As the quality of water is depleting, there is no reliable source of water to drink, may it be bottled water or municipal corporation

water. Even one cannot rely on groundwater as it is also contaminated due to chemicals getting seeped in the soil and getting mixed

with water due to which many people fall prey to diseases like jaundice, cholera, diarrhoea, hepatitis, etc

Need of water Purifier

The need for a purifier has increased to get pure and safe drinking water. These factors give rise to the need of water purifiers to

get the pure water. Market is loaded with variety of water purifiers to suit your demands. To describe them in depth they can be

primarily divided into two broad categories- electrical and nonelectrical. For the places where the water have low TDS levels and the

power cut is too high the non electrical purifiers are the best option available in the market. The electric purifiers uses RO

technology to remove TDS from water and are little more expensive than non electric water purifiers. In this post I will discuss about

non electrical water purifiers. These are the best sellers in the market due to low maintenance and low cost and are best suitable for

water with low TDS or low salt levels. Working of offline purifiers:-

These purifiers mostly purify the water in three to four stages. The stage One: Sediment filter stage The first stage is to remove heavy sediments from the water like, dirt, filth, heavy metals etc. The water purifiers are equipped with

sediment filter for this purpose. This sediment filter blocks dirt, and filth from water and the clear water is processed further. At

the end of this stage the water is free from heavy particles but still not usable.

The stage two: Filter through Activated carbon The second stage is the stage removing chemical, lead, chlorine, pesticides, and heavy metals organic compounds from the water. This

is done by passing the water through activated carbon. This techniques in not new or the breakthrough in the technology, rather it has

been used since ancient times in the form of charcoal beds for purification of water. As the activated carbon removed the chemical

from the water, the bad taste and odour from the water is also removed which is due to these chemicals. Now after this stage the water

is free from chemicals but still needs further purification to remove germs. Which is then carried over at the third stage.

Last stage: UF filtration

At the third stage, the water is passed through ultra-filtration (UF) stage. This is technically a membrane with very minute pores

which are even smaller than microorganisms so that when the water is passed through this membrane the germs are filtered from the

water. This is similar to reverse osmosis, microfiltration or Nanofiltration except that the size of the pores differs between the

two. This stage is for the removal of colloids, bacteria, pyrogen and macromolecules larger than the membrane pore size from water.

The end result Once the entire purification process takes place within the purification chamber of the purifier the resultant water is free from

microorganisms, turbidity, heavy metals, chemicals, bad taste and bad odor, thus making it drinkable.
