6 Effective Techniques That Will Improve Your Page Rank
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via search results. Many people wonder how search engines really work. Although the details are complex it may sound but it’s not difficult to do SEO yourself – you can save hundreds of dollars, and get the same results as the experts do.
Here are the steps to think about when you’re doing SEO yourself.
1) Domain Name - Registering a domain name for yourself is a great strategy as it will create a brand name for you and your products. Keep it short, as long as it’s somehow related to your products market. You could choose to name the page after one of your products or services, for example. Another method is to get a sub domain of a popular domain. This will generally help you get indexed more quickly though it will not appear quite as professional to your visitors. There is a trade-of here, sub domains are quicker (and generally cheaper), but domain names are more memorable, and, in the long run, better for your indexing.
2) Sign Up For Hosting - After you’ve registered your domain name, the next step is to get a hosting for your website. This is to house and maintain files for one or more of your websites. There are a lot of places to host your website – free hosting and paid hosting. You should opt for the pay hosting unless you want other people’s product advertisement on top of your website. This will dramatically decrease your sales and income.
3) Page Title - The next thing you should look at is your page’s title (i.e. the HTML title tag). This is the single most important entry for you page as search engines relies heavily on the page title when ranking a page. Decide what keyword you want this page to focus on, and add it to the page title. You should put your most important keywords in your title tags – you don’t need to worry about singular or plural forms as search engines account for these changes in most cases.
4) Page Description - The keyword Meta tags aren’t as important as they used to be as it is only supported by one major search engine (as of this writing) so try to get the best keyword meta tag won’t really increase your page ranking. However, the description tag is still used by some search engines to display information about your website to users and help them decide whether they’ve found what they are looking for. Write a concise description of your products or services using descriptive words and the keyword you are focusing on. Don’t overuse the keyword, maybe once in the description. Keep it fairly short, maybe 1 or 2 sentences. Some search engines only read the first portion of your webpage. Make sure your keywords and descriptions are accurate
5) Building Your Website Content - Having target keyword in all of your content is good, but keep in mind that each search engine has it’s own requirements when it comes to how many times that a keyword should be in the content for the page to be relevant. The search engines may penalize your webpage for spamming if they find that you have randomly repeated the keyword throughout the body of your web page. Don’t overdo it, or the search engines might mark you down.
6 Link Building - Getting incoming links to your site is probably the most important thing you can do to really increase your page ranking. Many search engines judge web page importance on the number and quality of incoming links from other sites. You should link to some related websites (outbound), but not too many. Don’t overdo incoming links (inbound) either, and keep them related your website’s content. It’s also good to get sites to use your keywords as the text of these links. Don’t create links with hidden text (i.e. text with the same color as the background color) in your page as the search engines will almost certainly penalize or even ban you for doing this.
Conclusion - When you begin or continue your SEO activities keep all of these things in mind and if you follow the advice above correctly, you can do it yourself and do fine. SEO, if done right, can keep you on top for as long as you want to be.
