Four Must-Dos Every Morning For Successful Realtors
"In every phenomenon the beginning remains always the most notable moment." Thomas Carlyle
Without starting, nothing gets done. And I think we can all agree a good start to your day beats a bad start any day.
So let me ask you this: How much attention are you giving your starts - your mornings? Most of us just wake up in a near robotic sleepwalk, hit the shower, throw down breakfast and hit the door for the office. A bomb could go off and we wouldn't bat an eye. But what if you could add a little magic to your mornings - enough to actually change your whole day into something better - much better?
After 20 years of coaching Realtors, I've come to realize that effective salespeople know, like world-class track stars, that great starts are imperative. And they have specific activities they do every morning to get themselves in the right frame of mind to be their absolute best. Their routines give them energy, focus and drive.
I've done some research into this, and here are four tips to give you a more productive start to your day:
1. Plan and Prioritize -Just showing up at the office and saying you're going to sell doesn't cut it. How are you going to sell? Who, specifically, will you target today? Are you going to do cold calls? Will you follow up with past clients, etc.? Also, plan your hour of power - know when you're energy level is highest during the day and use an hour during that time to handle your most productive activities such as listing, selling, prospecting or negotiating. And don't get caught up in the results. Instead, focus on the process. Do what needs to be done and do it right, do it with purpose, do it with honor and most importantly do it with a servant's heart. When you focus on the process, the results will take care of themselves.
2. Get hungry for frogs - Mark Twain once said, "Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day." So decide what your most difficult task will be for the day and resolve to do that first. This helps make your path look much smoother for the rest of the day. And guess what, with the tough work out of the way, your path will be smoother!
3. Ask yourself the important question - Every morning, sit in front of your computer and ask yourself this question: "What is the most important action I can take today that will bring me closer to my goal in real estate?" This question gets right to the heart of what you should be doing, and yes, you should ask it every day. It gives you unparalleled focus. A good follow up question to pose throughout the day is this: "Am I doing what I most need to be doing right now?" As we all know, the world of real estate is chaotic. This question can help keep you focused amid the bedlam.
4. Fully commit - Finally, no matter what, to make a lasting change in your life, you must commit to your actions. I've always said your whole life changes the moment you make a commitment. It's true. I've seen it over and over again. You have a fire in your belly, and when you truly commit you can feel it.
Let me hear from you. What are you doing in the morning that might be hurting you? How much thought have you given to your mornings? Do you believe a good start could help you? What can you start doing tomorrow morning that will help put you into a better frame of mind for the rest of the day?
