5 Fun Company Activities
Co-worker relationships are a funny thing. We spend so much time with these people and because of it usually don't see them outside of the office. For however long you work at a company, your colleagues are like your family, so why not take it outside of work and do something fun? Activity ideas include:
1. After-work drinks:
Going out for a few bevies with your co-workers on a Friday night is pretty standard, but making an actual night of it, is a bit more of an exception. If it feels like it's been a while since you had a big one with your colleagues, shoot them all an email and arrange a date to do just that. It's always nice to blow off some steam and see them outside of the formal office environment.
2. A trip to the movies:
When 'The Social Network' came out this past autumn, I suggested to my office that we go. We're a digital agency so it was a very relevant film. If a film comes out pertaining to your industry, or maybe just one you all agree you want to go to, then make a little evening of it. Who knows, maybe the bosses will even treat you.
3. A hot air balloon ride:
If your team is up for a real adventure you might suggest a hot air balloon ride. This is not only fun and thrilling but a great team building activity as well. Some ballooning companies actually have pre-planned team building exercises that they do with company groups.
4. Charitable work:
Going out into the community and giving back in some way is a great thing for a company to do for a number of reasons. For starters, you're doing charitable work, which is important. Secondly, you have the chance to meet other local businesses and get to know them, what they do, and maybe even how you could get involved. And finally, it's a good way to get to know the people you work with, an opportunity to see them doing different work, outside of the office.
5. Sports:
You don't have to be pro athletes to enjoy a pick-up game of football. Divide your company into teams and spend a summer afternoon outside kicking a ball around. This not only builds teamanship, but is a fun way to get to know one another and put some spring back in your step.
The importance of company morale should not be underestimated. When employees get along and feel like their managers care about them, want to get to know them and have fun with them, they work harder, plain and simple.
