Construction Of Swimming Pool: What About Digging
If you are considering having a pool installed in your yard then the odds are pretty good that you're tossing around the idea of doing the job yourself. Hey, you're like a lot of people today who have already done it because today's pre-fibbed pools are so much better built, and easier to install. Don't forget one thing though, and that is that you will have to dig for the deep end.
Now try to understand that excavating a large volume of dirt is a difficult job and there are a number of lessons to be learned along the way if you've never done it before. Now some things that you will run across will work in your favour, but on the other hand there are a few things that can go against you, and drive your costs up. So then let's cover a few of the basics.
Now the first thing you may like to know is that you can rent the dump truck and the backhoe locally to do your own digging. Check your yellow pages because someone is renting heavy equipment where you live. You also don't need any type of special license to run the backhoe either, although it sure helps if you have some idea of how it works. Just look online for how-to videos.
Your next hot tip is to make sure that you obtain a permit and a clearance from your county to dig. You would be amazed at just how many phone, power, water, and gas lines are running underground around your place and you don't want to hit one if you have no clearance, or permit. In fact just recently there was a story in the news about a lady that cut the Internet service to half of Latvia while digging in her yard.
So now that you have those technicalities out of the way are you ready to go get the machine and start digging? Not quite yet, because there are just two more things that you have to check out. The first is that you have to make sure that the water table isn't too high where you live, and the next is to find out if there are large rocks or bedrock underground in your way.
High water can mean that your pool plans are cancelled. At least the deep-end that is. And the rock means that there will be blasting involved if you can afford it and also that you won't be doing your own digging. So for now, if all checks out, the first item on your agenda should be to get some instructional material for running a backhoe, and start studying it.
