How To Get Organized Using Plastic Boxes

Household clutter can be permanently banished. It's not only simple to do, but it's painless and the results are spectacular. For those who dream of an orderly kitchen, a mess-free bedroom, or maybe a garage with enough free space to finally park the car, the clever use of plastic boxes can work organizational miracles. Best of all, one doesn't have to be born a neat-freak to make this happen.
The Kitchen
The kitchen is the central hub of most homes. Friends and family hang out, cook and have meals here. Family schedules are compared here, event notices get posted, and messages are left. The kitchen is command central. If it's out of order, everyone in the household suffers.
To get organized, start by giving away anything that isn't needed or loved. Sort keepers into groups. For example, baking pans, glassware, cooking pots, spices, and cereals could each constitute a group. Place each group of items into a larger, clear plastic container. Then put the container away in cabinets or on shelves. This streamlining allows for neatness now and easy access later. Group tiny packets or boxes into smaller clear containers. This keeps small things from sliding around loose inside of drawers and cabinets.
Create an inexpensive pantry to maximize space. Metal shelving systems are easy to find. Top them with a collection of coordinating clear plastic containers and suddenly a very clever organizational system takes shape.
The Garage
Some garages are so full of stuff that there's no room to park a vehicle. Start by creating zones. For example, lawn care items should be grouped in one zone, sports equipment in another, household items in yet another, and so forth. Consider installing a series of shelves along the garage walls and topping those with a mix of clear and opaque stackable plastic containers or totes.
For a handy person's work zone or work bench, small storage containers that stack or interlock can be a dream. Magnetic plastic containers with screw-top lids can hold tiny parts like screws, washers, or nails. Stow these containers neatly and in easy reach on a vertical metal strip, on a wall, above the work surface. Tools can go into clear plastic bins with pull out drawers.
The Bedroom
Most people spend one-third of their life in their bedroom. If it's clutter-free, then it's more of an oasis. Most beds have open space underneath. Reclaim it from the dust-bunnies. Storage containers built to roll away under a bed are a real boon.
Space can usually be reclaimed from closets too. If there's a single clothes hanging bar, then minor adjustments may open up vertical space. After giving away or donating clothing that hasn't been worn in over a year, organize the remaining items by length. Short skirts or pants folded on a hanger don't usually reach to the floor. By grouping shorter items together, there should be room underneath for placement of a reasonably tall plastic box or container with sliding drawers. Shorter containers may be tucked underneath the longer clothing.
It can feel liberating to clear out unwanted or unloved possessions. However, the key step comes next. Plastic boxes and other storage containers are ideal for sorting important possessions and creating order. When belongings have a place to go, they're less likely to end up as clutter. When there's less clutter, there's usually more peace in the home.
