The New Business of Photography

What IS the ‘New Business of Photography’ ? Oh SO many things!

Currently the major new business I have developed is photography for websites. The website business developers have a great need right now, to be known, liked and trusted. In today’s ‘aware’ society, Internet browsers (as in people) are more savvy about shopping online than ever before.

If the website business owner does not present him/herself properly, it’s on to the next website, and if that site makes them stop and shop – the first person loses. What I provide to Internet marketers, are photos of themselves in poses that properly attract viewers and showcase their information and products. The poses you see that make you stop to look at a website? They are most likely mine. I have spent years on creating and perfecting these poses, and discovering through the research of hugely successful Internet Marketers, what the conversion rates are of the different poses. This is invaluable information for my customer – and yours.

That is just ONE area of the “New” Business of Photography. You have green and white screen photography. Mastering the techniques of shooting on these two backgrounds is crucial to the success of selling my services and photos. It takes a while to learn the best techniques through trial and error as to what is the best material for each type and why; the distances; the lighting direction; heights; distances between person and backdrop /person and lighting /backdrop and lighting.

I discovered through some difficult trial and errors, that reflections of green can destroy a photo. Even if you are skilled in Photoshop, this reflection on insignificant shiny items can make editing a long and tedious process. However, for specific uses on the Internet, green screen is the best way to go.

White screen photography is another key way to shoot photography the way I do – with a traveling photo studio. I am at a different event all around the country every weekend. If I were 50 people, I could be at 50 events! This high impact solution to photography is my favorite.

The key to all of this “New Business of Photography” – is making money with what you provide, with your current or new skills; finding the clients where and when you want to work; providing information above and beyond a mere photo shoot, to lift your client in their individual areas of business.

Added Value is your key to huge and ongoing success. There are so many exciting ways to market today – online, with audio messages online and through automated delivery phone messages; with several different types of video on websites; through audio and or video postcards; high impact physical postcards; full size marketing postcards with “action” photography that converts lookers into buyers. And More!

Today’s photographers must learn all of the new ways to market with their photography, and pass this information directly to their clients. It is added value, and will keep your customers loyal. Knowledge in your area of expertise is crucial, and will set you apart from your competitors. Sharing these new techniques with local businesses is going to keep you ahead of your competition.

Then there are other areas that the huge majority of photographers are unaware of – and how they can make huge strides locally to provide that service to small and large businesses alike. There are too many options and details to provide in one article.
