Are You Only Snoring or Do You Suffer From Sleep Apnea?
Does your spouse/partner suffer from sleep deprivation? Is it because of your habit to snore loudly? You mustn’t let it go undiagnosed. Reason: you might be suffering from Sleep Apnea, a condition that obstructs the regularity of breathing from a time period of 10 seconds to up to 3 minutes and this interruption can occur more than 30 times during your night’s sleep. Untreated condition of Apnea can lead to too much of light interrupted sleep because when your breathing is paused for a substantial period (due to apnea); you are physically jolted to resume the necessary function. It results in logy eyes, fatigue and sluggish reflexes that hinder your performance during the day. But Apnea is to be scared of not only on the note that it may induce you to sleepy responses to your boss but also because it can result in serious medical conditions like Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Heart Strokes/Disease and /or Obesity.
Apnea majorly manifests itself in three forms; • OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea): The most common of the three, it is brought into action when the collapsible walls of soft tissue at the back of our throat block the human airway hampering unrestricted breathing. Common symptoms include snoring, interrupted sleep during the night and somnolence during the day. Quick way to avoid it; sleep laterally instead of on your back or use oral appliances. • CSA (Central Sleep Apnea): It is initiated by faulty respiratory control of the brain. The feedback mechanism that checks breathing and monitors CO2 levels reacts too slowly to notice lapses in breathing. During such lapses, breathing is nonexistent without any struggle from the person’s side but is resumed moments later with the advent of Hyperpnoea (increased breathing) to compensate for the loss of oxygen and abundance of waste. There are no such definitive symptoms apart from some sleeplessness during the dark hours and sleepiness during the light ones. • Mixed/Complex Sleep Apnea: It is a novel combination of the two afore mentioned types. When OSA persists with severe intensity, it may bring on CSA. Patients with Complex Apnea have shown that even after widening application on the air passage for OSA, they have exhibited persistent CSA that is detected during the CPAP therapy.
For quick and self snoring treatments, one may bring down their snoring levels by losing weight, repositioning: elevating your head at four inches, going pillow free, quitting smoking, decongesting your nasal passage, establishing regular sleep patterns and keeping the bedroom air moist.
If you snore too loudly, sometimes gasp during your sleep, wake up with a headache, fall asleep in front of the TV or at work or simply face memory loss you may be suffering from Sleep Apnea, particularly OSA. On such observation, get your supposed Apnea professionally detected by Sleep Apnea Tests such as Polysomnography. Sleep Apnea Treatments (like CPAP) are also wide spread and once diagnosed; you must employ their services promptly.
