Some girls are born pretty

by Kayla Tyler

Clear skin, healthy hair, smooth and supple skin – that’s what girls are made of. Horror of horrors I may not be one after all for I possess not one of the above-mentioned. I was the poster child for ugly duckling, ugly step sister, all things dreadful for that matter. No exaggeration, people are actually afraid to look closely at my face fearing they might be sucked in by my pores a.k.a. Jupiter’s moons or black hole/s.

And then it came down like manna from heaven the wondrous vitamin herb supplements from a, then unknown, supplements online store. I was a healed leper, a cripple that could walk, a blind that could see – I was freed from all the evils that held me captive for most of my existence.

If I was the poster child for all things horrid, my best friend was the exact opposite. She was a ray of sunshine, a refreshing breeze, a patch of blue sky after the storm, the rainbow after the rain. I guess some girls are just born pretty, for the rest of us unlucky ones; we just got to suck it up. She’s been recommending me these online vitamin supplements from time eternal. Call me a fool for not listening to Ms. Flawless herself and not scraping every penny off the bottom of my piggy bank to get my hands on the miracle online health supplements that promised beauty inside and out.

I started with aloe juice, a known body cleanser perfect for detoxification. Must be the fact that I’m psychosomatic and easily take into heart and into mind the things I hear about that I was already feeling the detoxifying power of the drink at the onset of taking it. Then there were aloe jelly shots that I chugged in place of the alcohol-infused Jell-o shots I was so accustomed to. It made me feel good inside – cleansed, refreshed and rejuvenated. It wasn’t long before the effects of aloe showed on my skin. I received compliments from my officemates that my skin was noticeably smoother – I was barely two weeks into taking the supplements.

The ultimate miracle worker: online skin care products. I’ve tried all the supposed “tried and tested” treatments for my skin that could be mistaken as the moon’s crater at any given day. If someone told me moose saliva would give me clear, soft, baby-smooth skin, I’d happily slather it on. The thing called “face” that was smack right in the middle of my head was more in the lines of “road under construction” or “warning: deep excavation”. It took two month’s time for my skin – or what I used to believe was asphalt – to shed miraculously like that of a snake’s and reveal a rosy, white thing of beauty.

From then on I was a renewed person. I had a spring in my step, an air of confidence about my person. I’ve been ugly before and I have no plans of going through all of hell again.
