The Way Brackish Water RO (Reverse Osmosis) Systems Work

by jamesarmstrong2011

Water treatment technology was developed as a solution to the lack of clean water in different parts of the world. Many countries suffer their citizens to be unhealthy due to dirty contaminated water. Many people die on a daily bases from lack of clean water and illness from drinking and bathing in bad unhealthy water. A brackish water RO system lends itself to the task of removing salts, contaminants and other organics from saltier tap water to make it suitable for human, industrial and commercial use. Usually brackish of water can be found where rivers and oceans meet, also where wells are dug close to the ocean and water has seeped in to contaminate it. Unfortunately for people in region where clean water is scarce, this type of water is all they have available to them. The way brackish water RO systems work is that they can use any combination of chlorination, chemical dosing, water softening, media filtration, and UV sterilization to treat the water. Brackish water RO systems, depending on the nature of the project and the intended end results desired, are water systems that are generally intended for use with well, ground, lake, river, etc. water. Their output can range anywhere from a small amount of 600 gallons per day to larger amounts of 900,000 or more gallons per day. Sea water reverse osmosis systems are intended for use with sea water and are usually used on boats or off shore rigs. Their output can range from 380 gallons per day to 500,000 gallons per day or more. During pretreatment, water can be run through a series of multimedia filters to remove contaminants, organics and other pesky issues. Carbon filters will typically remove odors, colors, bad tastes and small organics. A water softener will work to remove the calcium and hardness from the water so that the special membranes inside the system don’t clog or foul. The system itself is designed with semi permeable membranes to remove anything else that is left in the water along with the salts. The end result: clean drinkable water. Finally, the water is left to be sterilized by UV, which kills any remaining bacteria and organisms that survived the system. The water stays in a holding tank till it is needed for use. Pure Aqua, Inc. is a company in Southern California that manufactures and ships brackish water RO systems to different companies all around the world.
