Reaching New Personal Heights With a Life Coach: New York City

by Kacy Suther

The other day a friend of mine asked me if I've ever consulted a life coach. New York City, where I lived for 20 years of my life, was also where I ran into many of life's pitfalls at a time when I was trying to find my way and really get on my feet with what I wanted to do. So yes, I admitted to my friend, I have used a life coach before, and she helped me find a perspective and restructure my life in a way that's healthy and conducive to progress. After I recounted my experience with the life coach to my friend, he decided to hire one himself. The following are some of the things I told him that we worked on, areas where I experienced the most success: getting over old patterns, doing what I wish I could do, and learning to be proud of what I do and what I am working toward.

Those are just a few things, but they were major factors in my life at the time. My biggest issue was my inability to communicate my needs and wants effectively. In other words, I completely lacked the assertiveness I needed to go further in my career. When it comes to a career coach or executive coach, New York is no stranger to these types of services, but the professional I hired happened to offer a concentration on my occupational needs as well as my personal needs, which was great. All of those factors tend to tie in together anyway. Some of the more business-oriented areas we worked on included wealth building, financial intelligence, business building, career fulfillment, and making transitions.

While we focused a lot on the business side of me, we also balanced out that time by working on my personal setbacks, such as my assertiveness, or lack thereof. We worked on my communication skills at the workplace, particularly in compromising and conflicting situations. We also worked on my ability to make my case for well-deserved raises and promotions, a situation that I was always uncomfortable with and often avoided, much to my financial detriment. All in all, I learned to tap into the skills that I already had, the tools that were necessary to build the life that I wanted--a life that is satisfying, successful, and balanced.

From the moment I began meeting with a career coach, New York started to become a much friendlier place. I was finally getting somewhere in my pursuits. I envisioned my ideal self, got to know that person, and then, one day, I woke up and I was that person. Like I said, it's all about tapping into what already exists within you. Sometimes it just takes an outside perspective to help you recognize those things in yourself. That's why I had no problem encouraging my buddy to see a life coach or career coach. New York may have some of the best coaches in the world, but I have no doubt that he can find someone locally and still be able to write his own success story.
