Portland is a Fabulous Place to Live
Many lists citing the nations best places to live, are happy to say Portland is a fabulous place to live. In fact, on most lists, you will consistently find Portland either near or at the top of a listing of favorites. The reasons are numerous, but it’s hard to ignore the four pillars that are most important in determining the quality of any community: schools, parks, public transit, and citizen accessibility. Let’s look at each.
Schools
Overall, the quality of schools in Portland are outstanding. The city’s schools are known for their multitude of programs that specialize in various visual, communication and emerging technological arts. They also have an entire campus dedicated to health sciences. High quality music programs are also a regular feature where many of the city’s children let their creativity flourish.
Parks
Portland is a fabulous place to live, but their parks are some of the best in the nation, both in scope and ambition. Portland has a thriving beauty most cities would never dream of. Lush greenbelts, vast gardens, thick forests, and shimmering swimming pools dot the landscape of the municipality, improving the landscape of an already beautiful city.
Many of Portland’s most charming neighborhoods take their names directly from their adjacent parks. In the city’s parks you will see families finding common ground alongside at-risk kids discovering a first love of nature.
Public Transit
Portland has some of the most forward thinking city officials in the nation. Portland is a fabulous place to live because the city’s infrastructure takes into account not only the needs of today’s cities, but the needs of tomorrow as well. Portland has constructed a cost efficient and easy to use web of transit that is threaded throughout the city. This web allows visitors and citizens to reach the furthest points of the Portland map while enjoying every bit of the ride.
Accessibility
Portland is a city built with everyone in mind. The city’s short blocks and multitude of street-level attractions make the city a constant wonder for the foot bound adventurer. In fact, Portland was voted one of the nation’s best walking towns by, “Walking Magazine.”
For those who don’t feel like walking, the Portland Union Station has wonderful train service with three daily departures to Seattle, along with service to Vancouver and British Columbia.
